Dr. Donald P. Copley reflects on his experience as a cardiologist to conclude that in-home health care may be the best option for many elderly people with chronic diseases, especially heart disease. As an M.D. practicing in Kenmore, many of his patients sought in-home care from Hospice Buffalo, an in-home care company in the Buffalo, New York area. All of his patients reported a great experience with in-home care, and many even regained strength and were able to continue on with their lives as normal.
Over the years, many patients have been hospitalized for heart conditions, and while hospital costs have risen, the quality of care has not. According to Copley, heart failure is the top cause of repeated hospitalizations, but with in-home care, heart conditions can easily be treated at home. Copley stresses that in-home care should only be sought after more conventional practices, such as surgery, have been explored.
All of Copley’s patients have had a positive experience with Hospice Buffalo, and he believes that is due to the elements of “symptom relief, anxiety control, better nutrition, restful sleep, and family closeness.” Hospice caregivers find success in their daily interaction with in-home patients, which allows them to get to know the patients better, determine the best health treatments and adjustments for the patients, and gain the trust of the patients.
I agree in most ways that having in-home care is the best way. Being in the comfort of ones own home frees up any confusion and uncomfortable feelings that occur when taken away to a facility.
